Liberta Malioboro sits in the heart of Yogyakarta, a short walk from Malioboro Street, the city's shopping, street-food and becak-lined spine. It's the easiest base for a culture-first trip: the Kraton, Taman Sari and Beringharjo Market are within reach on foot, with Borobudur and Prambanan an easy day trip.
Why stay in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta is Java's cultural capital: the Sultan's Kraton, batik workshops, gamelan, and gudeg, the city's signature jackfruit stew. Malioboro is the centre of it all: artisan stalls by day, street musicians and lesehan dining by night.
Two of the world’s great temples bookend the city, Borobudur to the northwest and Prambanan to the east, both within an hour. Add the south-coast beaches and cave-tubing at Pindul and a few days fill quickly.
Getting around
Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo is about 1–1.5 hours away, linked by the airport train to Tugu Station near Malioboro. In town, Trans Jogja buses, Gojek/Grab and the classic becak cover everything; central Malioboro is best on foot.
